大塚家住宅とは
国指定建物で、18世紀前半の建築と伝承されている、古い建築様式の古民家。
江戸時代前期の古い民家形式から、江戸時代後期に普及した新しい民家形式への以降時期に建てられ、両方の要素を持っている。
家系図によると、大塚家は太田道灌の子孫と伝えられ、小田家の家臣だった。後に農民に戻り、代々の名主を務めた名家でもある。
実際に住宅内には歴史的な文化に触れる品々が多く残されており、一部は現在も使用されている。
現在も広い敷地を持つ同家の庭には、常陸風土記にも記された橘の一種と考えられている福来みかんという小さなみかんの木がある。
この住宅は今も生活の場として使われているため、見学する際には大塚さんに声をかけ、挨拶をして、マナーを守って見学しよう。

About the Otsuka Family Residence.
This nationally designated building is an old minka, a traditional Japanese farmhouse, with an architectural style that is believed to date from the first half of the 18th century.
The edifice was constructed during the transition from the traditional minka style of the early Edo period to the emerging, more modern minka style that gained popularity in the late Edo period. It incorporates elements of both architectural traditions.
The Otsuka family tree indicates that the family descends from Ota Dosan, a vassal of the Oda family. The family subsequently returned to agricultural pursuits and became a prominent lineage, with a succession of heads over multiple generations.
Indeed, a considerable number of historical and cultural artifacts are still present within the residence, some of which are still in use today.
The garden of the house, which still occupies a substantial plot of land, features a diminutive tangerine tree, designated Fukurai-mikan, which is believed to be a variety of tangerine referenced in the Hitachiniku Fudoki.
As the residence is still utilized as a domicile, visitors are encouraged to inquire with Mr. Otsuka regarding a tour of the premises, extend greetings, and conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful and courteous.
