冨岡家住宅とは
土浦市にある県指定文化財の古民家。
屋根は茅葺きで、昔話に出てきそうな雰囲気がある。
小田家の重臣を先祖に持つ冨岡家は、1590年の土浦落城の後、農民に戻った。
庄屋建築で建てられている冨岡家の住宅は、18世紀の初頭に建築されたと推定されている。屋根が高いつくりで規模も大きく、寺院に似ている。茨城県内に、同様の建築様式の建物は存在しない。
現在も住居として使用されているため、見学の際には住んでいる冨岡さんの迷惑にならないように気を付けたい。

About Tomioka Family Residence
This is an aged private residence located in Tsuchiura City, which has been designated as a prefectural cultural property.
The thatched roof imbues the house with an ambience evocative of an ancient narrative.
The Tomioka family, whose ancestors were overlords of the Oda family, subsequently returned to their agricultural pursuits following the fall of Tsuchiura in 1590.
The Tomioka family house, constructed in the style of a village headman’s residence, is estimated to have been erected in the early 18th century. Its elevated roof and expansive dimensions evoke the appearance of a temple. No other edifice in Ibaraki Prefecture exhibits a comparable architectural style.
Given that the house is still in use as a residence, visitors are advised to exercise caution and avoid disturbing Mr. Tomioka, the current resident.
